Managing places
How to claim a listing, what managers are responsible for, which tools unlock at each trust tier, and how premium listing billing works on the Off-Leash.club.
What managing means
Each place has at most one active manager. “Managed by,” “Verified,” and “Community Steward” are platform trust signals — not proof of legal ownership, leasehold, or employment.
the Off-Leash.club shows who we trust to speak for a listing. Winning a claim unlocks the manage page for that place.
Places enter the directory from seeding, destination expand / Google propose, or community add. Adding a place does not make you the manager — claim separately when you want the manage tools.
Verification and premium listing are separate steps after you are the active manager.
How claiming works
Claim race
Log in, open a place page, and request to manage it. Multiple users may enter a public notice-period race for the same place (default 7 days).
- The race appears on the location page and may appear in the public feed.
- Other users may agree or disagree with individual claims and may join the race.
- At the end of the window we select at most one winner by community score (agree minus disagree; ties go to the earliest claim).
- Other open claims for that place are rejected.
You cannot use manage tools until you win and the claim is active.
Listing notice
If we have a published email for an unclaimed place, we may send that address one notice that the listing exists, with a link to the public page. The notice includes an unsubscribe link. It does not skip the claim race.
One manager
Only one person manages a place at a time. See Terms of Use §4 for disputes, challenges, and transfers.
Your responsibilities
If you manage a location you must:
- keep facts accurate and up to date;
- respect other users’ ratings and posts;
- not use manager tools to suppress legitimate feedback or invent reviews.
Name, address, slug, and map coordinates stay platform-controlled. You may edit blurb, description, category, off-leash status, hours, amenities, contact details, and notes from the manage page.
Official board posts made from manage are attributed as the place voice
(@official · place) and remain subject to the Terms.

Premium listing requires Verified or Steward status; it does not grant verification.
Verification (free)
Only an active basic manager may request Verified or Community Steward status.
- Prove control of the website listed for the place — DNS TXT,
/.well-known/off-leash.txt, or a homepage meta tag. - Receive a one-time code at an email address on that website’s domain.
- Community steward vote for eligible outdoor categories (parks, trails, beaches, campgrounds).
- Submit documents or video for human review when other methods are not available.
Verification checks use contact data from the original Google or OpenStreetMap listing — not contact fields you edit on the manage page. Uploaded proofs are private and reviewed by admins only.
Details: Terms §4 and Privacy Policy.
Challenges and transfers
After a claim is active, eligible users may open a management challenge with a written reason, subject to cooling-off periods and abuse limits.
- Community votes over a notice window may transfer management when net agreement favors the challenger.
- If the current manager is unverified (basic), a challenger may also take over by completing listing verification.
- Active managers may voluntarily offer to transfer management to another @handle. The recipient starts as a basic manager and must re-verify.
- Premium listing ends for the outgoing manager and does not move with the seat.
